Restaurants
in Provincetown:
- Ross’
Grill inside Whaler’s Wharf (508) 487-8878, Great if not the best
water views of the harbor, gracious service and excellent bistro fare.
Many brilliant wines by the glass. Contemporary and arty, yet cozy décor.
Open for lunch through dinner. Fabulous place to watch the sunset from.
Do not miss their very garlicky Caesar salad (with blackened shrimps)
and their Crabcakes. Raw bar. Open in the off-season, too. This is one
of my personal favorites.
- The Mews
Restaurant & Café: 429 Commercial Street (508/ 487-1500)
The food is fabulous. The wait staff is fabulous and they have the largest
selection of Vodkas in New England. There is a more formal dining room
smack on the beach down-stairs (only open in season) and the more casual
café up-stairs (open year-round), which also features excellent
entertainment. If you’re here in the off-season, do not miss their
Monday night “ open mike” performances. Everybody is there
and the quality of the entertainment is very high.
- Edwige
at Night: 333 Commercial Street (508/ 487-2008)
One of the top-places to dine. The food is adventurous and always exquisite.
Very sweet and professional wait-staff. Romantic, especially if you
manage to get one of the few out-door tables on the small patio. Make
sure to call and make a reservation, for week-ends, even a few days
in advance.
- Front
Street: 230 Commercial Street (508/487-9715)
Bistro-style restaurant in the cozy brick cellar of a Victorian house.
Small tables enhanced by candle-light in a convivial athmosphere. Mediterranean-American
fusion cuisine, which gets raving reviews. Also won Wine Spectator award
for excellence. Book well in advance or be prepared for a long wait…
- Bubala’s
By the Bay: 183 Commercial Street (take Carver Street from Bradford)
( 508/ 487-0773) website
One of my favorite places: The food is always fresh, adventurous and
inspired. The staff are fun and efficient. The prizes are very correct.
The large out-door patio is "The" people watching place, but
there are also water-view tables indoors. And there is a private parking
for patrons. The bar is a favorite local hang-out and there is nightly
entertainment. There might be a short wait, but you are bound to get
a table quite rapidly. Children’s menu and you can even bring
your (well-behaved) dog. Open from Breakfast until PM, late May through
October.
Worth the
drive is the "Wicked
Oyster" in Wellfleet, situated in a beautifully restored hip
and cozy cottage with a happening crowd at the bar, and among the freshest
and most innovative food on the Cape. It's a favorite among locals and
visitors alike. Each visit , I find it even better than I remember it
from my last time. Affordable and eclectic wine-list. Gracious service,
open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
A "Must-Do", especially with kids, is to drive to Wellfleet
on a Wednesday evening. Enjoy super-scrumptious fish or a plump shrimp
burrito at "Mac's Seafood " by the harbor or try their fresh
from the ocean sushi in the adjacent market. Sit at one of the communal
tables on the sand and then by dusk, walk out to the pier to participate
in the "Square-Dance" that's held for free. You have to see
it to believe it, when over 400 people do the "Macarena" in
synchronized motion.
TerraLuna: Within walking distance from LSM, you'll find this Mediterranean
temple of gastronomy. The food is unbelievable and well worth the wait
for a table, unless you reserve well in advance. Don't pay attention
to the simple decor (although it is cozy with a lot of exposed wood)
.The floor-staff are mainly "mature" women who have worked
here for ever. Make sure to start off with a "Murph Special",
a variation on the Cosmopolitan, prepared by the very charming bartender
Chris Murphy.
